Our History

First founded in 1984, United Methodist Urban Ministries stepped forward to FOSTER HOPE to underserved and vulnerable populations by sharing vital information and referrals needed to meet basic needs.

Not long after, it became clear that WE needed to PARTNER with our community in order to ENCOURAGE and SUPPORT our clients directly, offering emergency food, shelter, prescription, and utilities assistance, just to name a few.

In 1991, our vision expanded with the establishment of the SafeHouse Domestic Violence Shelter, a sanctuary dedicated to PROTECT individuals suffering from physical or emotional abuse. Now registered as an independent 501(c)3 organization, Clarksville Area Urban Ministries continues to thrive, SERVING the community by fostering RELATIONSHIPS while delivering HOPE and promoting DIGNITY to all who enter.

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”
